Factsheet

Career readiness

A factsheet to help you answer and understand the two mandatory career readiness questions as part of matriculation

Updated on 19 July 2024

We are committed to supporting not only your educational pursuits but also your future career aspirations.

To ensure that we provide you with the best possible guidance and resources, we have added two career readiness questions to the matriculation process.

Why the questions are important

Personalised support and guidance

By knowing where you stand in your career planning and the experiences you have had, we can provide personalised support. This may include one-to-one careers guidance, workshops tailored to your needs, or connecting you with industry professionals for practical work related learning.

Enhancing employability

The data collected from these questions allows us to design programmes and initiatives that enhance your employability. We can identify common gaps or needs among students and develop targeted interventions to address them. This ensures that you are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge required by employers.

These questions will appear in your matriculation task at the start of every year

Question one

What stage are you at now, in relation to your next steps following university?

This question helps us gauge your current level of preparedness and identify where you stand in terms of planning your future career. You choose one option from a list.

Whether you have a clear career path in mind, are still exploring your options, or are unsure about the next steps, this information is crucial.

It allows us to tailor our support services to meet your individual needs, providing you with the right resources, workshops, and advice at the right time, to help you progress effectively.

Question two

Choose one or more statements from the following regarding the experience you have undertaken during the last 12 months

By understanding the types of experiences you have had over the past year, we can better assess how prepared you are for the workforce.

These experiences are valuable indicators of your readiness to transition from university to your chosen career.

They also help us identify areas where you might benefit from further development or support.

Next steps

We encourage you to be honest in your responses to ensure you get the most from the support available.  Once completed, we will use the information to offer targeted careers support to help you realise and achieve your goals.

It is important that you also keep your profile on the Careers Portal up to date so that you can receive targeted careers information, vacancies and events.  This short video will tell you more about the Careers Portal.

We are dedicated to your success, both academically and professionally. By answering these career readiness questions, you are taking an important step towards a bright and successful future. Thank you for participating and helping us to help you achieve your goals.
