Examples of evidence required for the verification of Contextual Factors

Unpaid Carer

Someone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without your support.

Examples of evidence include:

  • Letter from school/college
  • Letter from GP or other health professional
  • Young Carers ID card
  • Letter from a carers’ association
  • DWP Carers Allowance (benefit) letter
  • Young Carers Grant letter

A looked after person (care experienced) 

If you are or have been a looked after person (Care experienced), including but not limited to; adopted children who were previously looked-after. This care may have been provided in one of many different settings, such as in residential care, foster care, kinship care or through being looked-after at home with a supervision requirement.

Examples of evidence include:

  • Letter from school/college
  • Letter from the relevant local authority
  • Letter from a relevant charitable organisation
  • Letter from GP or other health professional
  • SAAS Care Experience Bursary form, signed by the relevant professional
  • Court documents
  • Adoption certificates

Estranged

Someone who is estranged from their parents (normally not in contact with them for at least 12 months as a result of a permanent breakdown in their relationship, with no sign of this being resolved).

Examples of evidence include:

  • Letter from school/college
  • Letter from student finance
  • Letter from GP or other health professional
  • Letter from the relevant local authority
  • Letter from a relevant charitable organisation

Free School Meals

If you are or have been receiving free school meals.

Examples of evidence include:

  • Letter from school
  • Letter from the council
  • Certificate of entitlement

Refugee, Asylum Seeker, Humanitarian Protection

If you are a refugee, an asylum seeker or have been granted humanitarian protection and are resident in the UK.

Examples of evidence include:

  • Residence Permit (BRP card) Refugee permission to stay 
  • Residence Permit (BRP card) UK settlement
  • Asylum Registration Card (ARC)  

Timescales

If you are applying for an October deadline course, such as Medicine or Dentistry, evidence of your circumstances must be provided no later than one week after the UCAS Equal Consideration Date (of 15 October).

If you are applying for a January deadline course, evidence of your circumstances must be provided no later than two weeks after the UCAS Equal Consideration Date (of 29 January).

If you apply after the January deadline, evidence of your circumstances must be provided no later than two weeks after submitting your application.

How do I upload my documents

Once you have submitted your application, you will receive your University of Dundee Application Acknowledgement email, within the email you will find a link that will take you to our Applicant Portal. Within My Applications, you will find the link to 'Upload Documents' in the Application Details section, here you can provide us with the information we require.
