Nursery non-attendance policy

The University Nursery policy on monitoring attendance.

Updated on 20 April 2023

In addition to our Child Protection policy, The University of Dundee Day Nursery Ltd will investigate un-notified nonattendance of children, and if they feel it necessary will contact social Services and the Care Inspectorate.

The University of Dundee Day Nursery Ltd has a duty of care to all children attending and must act to always ensure their safety, this includes monitoring attendance. If a child attending nursery full time or part time is absent without contact being made the nursery will try to contact the family on the same day after 3.00pm. If no contact is made by 4.00 pm, the nursery will contact social services and inform them of their concerns. At this point, in line with current guidelines, the nursery will also contact the Care Inspectorate.

Any decision to contact Social Services in relation to nonattendance will be recorded in writing and kept Chronology Folder within the child’s file in the office. These can be given to outside organisations in relation to a child protection case if requested. These agencies are the Police, Social Services, and the Care Inspectorate and when necessary, any agencies liked to the Children’s Panel.

Apart from that non-attendance is recorded in Monitoring Children’s Attendance Folder, which is kept in office.
