OneUniversity accessibility statement

How the University of Dundee ensures it’s OneUniversity service is accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018

This accessibility statement applies to the OneUniversity CiA Release 24B provided by a 3rd party vendor, TechnologyOne, which is run and operated by The University of Dundee. This means some aspects of accessibility are outwith the University’s immediate control.

This statement applies to TechnologyOne’s Accessibility Mode which is a conforming alternate version to TechnologyOne’s Standard Mode

OneUniversity CiA Release 24B allows the University of Dundee to manage and maintain its' Finance and People services. This includes the external recruitment service which non University employees may engage with via our Work For Us page, recruitment job boards, and other recruitment avenues.

This website is run by The University of Dundee. The University of Dundee want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, this means you should be able to: 

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability. You may also wish to browse the various free add-ons which are available via browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The University of Dundee is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This service is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliance(s) and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Images and non-text content

  • There are informative images, such as icons and graph images, that have no text alternative for assistive technology users (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1).
  • There are decorative images which are not hidden from assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1).

Colour and contrast

  • There is a star rating component which relies on colour to communicate information (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.1).
  • Some text does not have sufficient contrast against its background (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3).
  • Some non-text content, such as some star rating buttons, some custom focus indicators and a custom input field boundary, have insufficient contrast with their background (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.11).

Page and content structure

  • Some text is displayed visually as a heading but is not marked up as such for assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • Some text has been marked up inappropriately as a heading when it does not title or categorise any content (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • There are some headings where the heading structure is inconsistent with the visual structure of the page (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • There is a presentational table that is wrongly presented as a data table to assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • Some content is inappropriately marked with list semantics when it is not interrelated as a list (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • There are elements that are visually communicated as being key and value pairs which are not marked up as a description list (WCAG success criterion 1.3.1).
  • There is some iframe content which is inappropriately overridden, breaking the screen reader reading order (WCAG success criterion 1.3.2).

Text resizing and reflow

  • There are instances where reflowing the page to 400% zoom causes loss of content (WCAG success criterion 1.4.10).

Keyboard navigation

  • Some links and interactive accordion buttons are not keyboard focusable (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1).
  • There is a button used to add a table which cannot be activated with keyboard (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1).
  • There are some non-interactive elements and off-screen elements which receive keyboard focus (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3).
  • There is an instance where focus does not correctly return to the triggering element when closing a modal dialog for a tooltip button (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3).
  • The keyboard focus indicator is not visible on some components. (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.7).

Form controls

  • Some radio buttons are not associated with a legend as a group label (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1).
  • There are input fields that collect personal information where the autocomplete attribute is not used or used inappropriately (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.5).
  • There is an input field where the accessible name does not include the visual label (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.5.3).
  • Some form fields have an asterisk to indicate that they are required which is not explained (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.2).

Interactive components

  • There is content presented on hover where users cannot move the mouse pointer over the new content (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.13).
  • Some interactive elements, such as certain iframes and modal dialogs, are missing an accessible name (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some interactive elements, such as certain buttons, have an inappropriate accessible name (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some interactive elements, such as certain links, buttons and modal dialogs, are missing an accessible role (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some interactive elements, such as certain accordion buttons, tabs and tabpanels, have an inappropriate accessible role (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some tabs do not indicate their selected state for assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some buttons do not correctly indicate their expanded state for assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).
  • Some accordions and tab controls are marked up incorrectly for announcement by assistive technology (WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2).

Disproportionate burden

Currently, we have not made any disproportionate burden claims.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing this service.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are working with TechnologyOne to fix or provide alternatives for all issues we are aware of, and which have been/are identified by periodic testing and auditing processes.

TechnologyOne are committed to continuous improvement with the accessibility of their products with each successive release, and ongoing audits of every release for quality assurance. 

TechnologyOne provide 2 major releases per year, an A and B release. The University of Dundee currently take the B release only.

The University of Dundee’s OneUniversity upgrade schedule is as follows:

  • 2024B with effect from early November 2024 through to early November 2025
  • 2025B with effect from early November 2025 through to early November 2026
  • 2026B with effect from early November 2026 through to early November 2027

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 8 April 2025.

The first preparation of this statement was on 8 August 2024.

This application was last tested on 4 February to 12 February 2025.

The test was carried out by AbilityNet to WCAG 2.1 AA using a representative cross-sample of 16 pages. Pages were tested with Windows 11, Firefox and the NVDA screen reader on desktop and with iOS 17 and the VoiceOver screen reader on mobile. The application was tested in Accessibility Mode.

This Accessibility Statement has been produced using the Accessibility Statement provided by TechnologyOne for the CiA Release 24B. Should a copy be required, please contact the One University leads as stated within the Feedback and contact information section.

The OneUniversity service can be used using one of 2 modes:

  1. Standard Mode
  2. Accessibility Mode

If you require an accessible version of the service, Accessibility Mode should be used. 

Enable Accessibility Mode – Login page

If you have employee or applicant credentials, you can choose to enable Accessibility Mode from the login page.

  • Leaving the Accessibility Mode checkbox unticked will launch the service in Standard Mode
  • Ticking the Accessibility Mode checkbox will launch the service in Accessibility Mode

Enable Accessibility Mode – Work for us

If you are interested in working for the University of Dundee, you may engage with the recruitment portal of the OneUniversity service via our Work For Us web page, and searching our job vacancies. When ready to apply for a vacancy, you will have the option to apply as either an Internal (current employee of the University of Dundee) or External (not a current employee of the University of Dundee) candidate.

If applying as an external candidate, you will be taken directly into the recruitment portal.

  • If you are a returning external candidate, on using the log on button presented, you will be taken to the login page. Follow the steps outlined above if you need to enable Accessibility Mode.
  • If you are new to the recruitment portal (or chose not to log on with your credentials at this time), due to differences relating to; the device being used, the browser in use, a users’ personal setup, etc., exact steps will differ, but the following will allow you to enable Accessibility Mode.

Accessibility Link

An accessibility link titled Change to accessibility mode has been made available.

With a keyboard:

  1. Press the Tab key until you reach the accessibility link titled Change to accessibility mode.
  2. Press the Enter key.

With a screen reader: Use the quick navigation controls.

Accessibility Icon

An accessibility icon has been added to the header bar on all screens (see Figure 1).

With a keyboard:

  1. Press the Tab key until you reach the accessibility icon.
  2. Press the Enter key.

With a screen reader: Use the quick navigation controls. Alternatively, click on the icon with the mouse.

If applying as an internal candidate, you will be presented with the login page. Follow the steps outlined above if you need to enable Accessibility Mode.

To further improve access to this Accessibility Statement, all Job Vacancies displayed on our Search our Job Vacancies web page have a link to the statement presented.

Enable Accessibility Mode – Recruitment Job Board

If you are interested in working for the University of Dundee, you may engage with the recruitment portal of the OneUniversity service via a Job Board. Using the apply button within the Job Board will take you directly into the recruitment portal.

  • If you are a returning external candidate, on using the log on button, you will be taken to the login page. Follow the steps outlined above if you need to enable Accessibility Mode.
  • If you are new to the portal, (or chose not to log on with your credentials at this time), due to differences relating to; the device being used, the browser in use, a users’ personal setup, etc., exact steps will differ, but using either the Accessibility Link or the Accessibility Icon (details above) will allow you to enable Accessibility Mode should you need it.
  • If you are an internal candidate, please pause your search via the job board, and go to OneUniversity directly. This will take you to the login page where you can follow the steps outlined above for enabling Accessibility Mode should you require it, and using the Log on with your UoD credentials button to access the service.
