Most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are due to be achieved by 2030.

According to the most recent progress report however, only 18% of the 169 targets are on track or have been met. For SDG 6 on water specifically, the situation is worse as none are on target and only one (on access to hygiene and sanitation) is categorized as having made even moderate progress. Given this apparent lack of success, the question of what will replace the SDGs, if anything, is a logical one.

This talk, based in part on work ongoing with Southampton University, will examine the factors that may influence decisions on what might happen in 2030. These include the reasons why SDG 6 has not been successful and why the SDGs more generally have achieved less than some expected when they were drawn up 10 years ago.

The UNESCO Centre for Water Law, Policy & Science will host this event.
