Enhance your global career: choose from three distinct Master’s project options

As part of your master’s journey with us, you will have the opportunity to tailor your final project experience to your career aspirations. We offer three flexible and career-focused options, each designed to help you build valuable skills, global experience, and employer-ready confidence:

Internship project report – Real-World experience, Global Reach

Step into the professional world with an 8-week internship that allows you to apply classroom theories to real business challenges. We offer a wide range of local, regional, and international internships. These take place in a range of locations, currently including in-person in Bangkok, hybrid in London, online and local experiences in the Scottish region with locations confirmed annually.

Note: Visa restrictions may limit global internship opportunities for some students.

Most employers value internships and prior work and we designed these opportunities so you can demonstrate that you have the skills and experience employers require. You will be provided with support to navigate through internship applications and interviews and to understand how to communicate your achievements confidently in the global job markets. You will be receiving comprehensive support throughout your internship journey.

For students who do not want to undertake the internship option, they can select from one of the following:

Consultancy project report - Solve real business challenges

Become a problem solver and critical thinker by working as a student consultant for a real-world organisation. The University collaborates with various-sized companies and organisations that have a particular issue they would like to resolve. You will act as external consultant applying your business skills to prepare a report focusing on the question set by the employer’s consultancy brief.

Essay-type project report – Deep dive into your area of interest

You will apply secondary research on a topic in an area related to your programme and pathway, producing a report in line with typical essay writing. You will build a strong theoretical framework to address a real-world problem, demonstrating your analytical and critical thinking skills.

Regardless of the chosen pathway the available choices (internship, consultancy, or essay-based project), are scientifically designed to offer you a similar set of skills and you will:

  • Participate in hands-on training workshops to boost your practical and academic skills
  • Access online learning materials to guide your project work
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion after passing quizzes that validate your knowledge

Internship options

The School of Business are able to offer the following internship options. All the options are unpaid but assessed and credit-bearing so contribute to your overall degree alongside gaining the skills employers value:

Local Internships in Scotland

These 8-week placements are with companies based within a 1.5-hour commute from Dundee (e.g., Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stirling, Perth, Fife or another nearby area). You will need to pay for your own travel costs to and from the employer, but due to locality to Dundee you may be able to retain your existing accommodation. You need to undertake a competitive application process which will include information events about the available posts. Successful candidates will be provided with a co-ordinator as a single point of contact and given advice and support in preparation for the placement. The University of Dundee Career Service is mainly sourcing and managing these internships.

In-person overseas internships

These placements are normally hybrid in-person with international companies based in selected locations abroad which will be confirmed annually. You will be required to pay for your accommodation and travel, but the accommodation will be sourced and managed by the internship provider. Impact Consulting is the main provider managing these internships.

Hybrid internships in London and other UK cities

These 8-week placements are with companies based in London or other UK destinations. You will spend the first 3 days and the last 3 days of your internship with a company in the chosen location, while the rest of the internship takes place online. This means you may be able to retain your accommodation. These internships involve a combination of in-person meetings at the employer’s offices and online meetings every 1 or 2 weeks. For students staying overnight during their in-person visits to the employer’s offices, there is a cost to you for accommodation purposes and students will be responsible for the travel costs to visit the employer. Impact Consulting is the main provider managing these internships.

Online internships

These 8-week placements are with international companies abroad or companies which are based all around the UK. The internship is undertaken fully online and you will be working from any location by attending online meetings with the employer every 1 or 2 weeks. By completing the internship online you will be able to retain your existing accommodation and not incur any additional travel costs. Impact Consulting is the main provider managing these internships.
