Careers and employability support for disabled students
How the Careers Service can provide career support for students with a disability
Updated on 11 February 2025
Balancing academic work and making the most of career support can be tricky. It can be even more challenging if you have a disability or health condition and need to consider how to discuss your circumstances with employers.
As the primary point of support on careers and employability, we aim to provide tailored guidance to all students who identify as having a disability, neurodivergence or long-term health condition.
A disability can be a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal daily activities.
The Disability Rights UK website can help you understand your rights in the United Kingdom under the Equality Act 2010.
How we can help
We are dedicated to providing comprehensive support and are here to assist you every step of the way:
- discussing your circumstances with employers
- requesting recruitment adjustments
- understanding your rights as a disabled applicant
We offer a range of options to get in touch:
- Ask a careers adviser - find out how to book a dedicated 1:1 appointment online and in person to discuss your circumstances. You will also find out what we might cover in the appointment.
- Ask a question - visit the Careers Portal to ask a question over email, and have your CV or application reviewed. An adviser will reply to your query.
- Bespoke events - attend events and workshops on disability with employers, asking for adjustments, and transitioning to the workplace with confidence.
