Setting up your Jisc Online Surveys account

Learn how to request and get started with your Online Surveys account

Updated on 29 April 2025

Request a Jisc Online Surveys account

Please email the Survey Service if you would like to request a Jisc Online Surveys (JOS) account. We need the following information from you in order to set up an account:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your University of Dundee email address
  • The name of your School or Professional Service

If you are requesting multiple accounts on behalf of staff/students, please provide the above information for each of the intended account holders.

We will add your University of Dundee email address to the University of Dundee Jisc Online Surveys account and notify you by email once this is done.

Do not create a trial account from the Jisc website as we have no control over this type of account, and it will expire after 30 days.

Notice periods

  • Allow 2 working days for individual requests.
  • If requesting multiple accounts for students or staff, allow 4 working days.

Most requests are processed sooner, but these timeframes help during busy periods.

If staffing is reduced, we process requests in order but at a slower pace. If this applies, you’ll receive an automatic email notification—please plan ahead for your survey needs.

Activate your Jisc Online Surveys account

Within 15 minutes of being notified that your University of Dundee email has been added to Jisc Online Surveys, you’ll receive an automated email from Jisc.

Use the activation link in the email, and then enter your University of Dundee email address to activate your account.

Online training

To help get you started you can attend an online training session or watch a pre-recorded session which covers the basics of the Jisc Online Surveys tool.

The recording lasts just under an hour and topics covered are:

  • how to create a survey
  • how to add and edit different question types
  • how to add text and media to your survey
  • how to add logic to questions and pages
  • how to set up respondent screening
  • how to launch your survey and issue a public link
  • understanding your Analyse Overview page
  • how to view and delete an individual response

If you are asking us to create a survey for you (staff only), then as a minimum, please make yourself familiar with how to preview your survey and how to access your results.

You can also access the inbuilt Help and Support pages at any stage of the survey process.
