This module introduces you to the structure and function of the adult human skeleton. You’ll study bones by region, learning how they work together to support the body, protect organs, and enable movement.

You’ll also learn to identify individual bones and joints, along with their key features and landmarks.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • gain practical experience with human skeletons
  • explore the organisation and functions of the skeletal system
  • learn about different types of bones and joints and their characteristics
  • identify bones and anatomical landmarks in the human skeleton

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • describe the structure and function of the human skeleton
  • classify bones and joints
  • identify and name bones, joints, and key skeletal features

  • practical test (40%)

Teaching methods / timetable

The module will be taught a mix of extensive self-directed learning resources available online. These are accompanied by a series of practical workshops. These will give you practical experience in human osteology.

It will run over the first 5 weeks of Semester 1.
