You will explore your understanding of research methods.

In doing this, you will undertake small research projects. These will allow you to collect your own data. You will then explore how you can visualise data in different ways that are appropriate to the audience.

Following this you will undertake a project that allows you to explore social, political or environmental issues. Your outputs can be graphic design, illustration or comic design driven.

Across the semester you will keep a blog of activities and any papers or book chapters that you have read. This will allow you to write reflectively about your learning experience in this module.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • reaffirm your existing skills. This will allow you to explore them more widely through research and visualisation
  • explore emerging technology to understand their place within Communication Design practice. You will learn where they can enhance a project

By the end of this module you will:

  • have a good understanding of the relationship of research to a project outcome
  • understand how visualisation of data can be used to communicate effectively to an audience

Assignments / assessment

You will be assessed by the submission of a portfolio of creative work. This will be supported by a sketchbook of development work and a written blog.

You will be scored on your portfolio by the following:

  • research and critical analyses (20%)
  • creative development (30%)
  • realisation of your project (30%)
  • written blog (20%)

You will receive feedback on your portfolio throughout the module. This will be undertaken in group and one-to-one tutorials and crits.
