DJ53006
This module allows you to specialise in an area of medical or forensic art that particularly interests you.
Building upon the foundations laid in semesters one and two, you will plan and undertake an independent project. This may take the form of either a novel piece of research, a case study or live brief.
You will be assigned a project supervisor to support you. Dissertations may take the form of either an illustrated report or a journal paper. You will also present your artwork as part of the DJCAD Master’s Show.
This module will help you develop skills in project management and academic writing.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- undertake a self-directed project of your choosing
- apply knowledge from the previous modules to your project
- learn project and time management skills
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- produce a literature review. This will allow you to show an awareness of the principal theories, current issues, and developments in the fields of forensic and/or medical art
- relate current developments within medical art to your own practice
- design, organise, and manage a large self-directed project
- compare and contrast your findings with those of previous research
- critically evaluate and communicate your ideas and findings. You will be able to do this both through writing and oral presentation
- present your artwork either through the curation of a physical exhibition or digitally, as most appropriate

- visual outcome (50%)
- may either be presented as part of a physical exhibition or digitally as most appropriate
- dissertation or a journal-style paper (45%)
- short presentation (5%)
This module does not have a final exam.
