Develop your creative writing skills in an online workshop environment. You will take part in ongoing sharing and refinement of writing practice. This will allow you to gain hands-on experience in writing and editorial skills in a real-time workshop setting.

You will also attend online masterclasses which will be held by visiting professional practitioners. This will give you the opportunity to learn from industry experts. You will also be able to take part in Q&A sessions to draw from their experience and embed this into your own practice.

You will read a range of materials related to the masterclasses and will then share your own creative work during the workshop.

You will receive peer-to-peer feedback as well as feedback from tutors in the workshops.

This real-time online workshop is unique to this course and will feed your imagination to take your studies to the next level.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • apply knowledge and understanding through participation in the workshops
  • share your own creative work to your peers and tutors.
  • give and respond to peer-to-peer feedback
  • learn how to apply your creative writing skills in industry with advice from professional practitioners

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • show an understanding of the scope and defining features of writing for the creative economies. You will do so in the context of a workshop environment, sharing ideas, and giving and receiving feedback
  • evidence a critical and creative understanding of your skills. You will also be able to evidence methods for producing creative writing. You will also be able to formulate and receive feedback
  • have skills in pitching and critiquing ideas through creative responses. You will also be able to have skills in more formal academic writing. These will equip you with transferable skills which can be adapted to a variety of employment opportunities

Assignments / assessment

  • creative portfolio (60%)
  • reflective essay (40%)

This module does not have a final exam.

Teaching methods / timetable

  • three-hour workshops, every two weeks
  • online sessions
    • These will include content-based discussions and opportunity for module-related academic questions
  • discussion boards
  • on-demand module materials. You can work through these at your own pace

Self-driven study time will include:

  • reading and completing associated tasks
  • engaging with a wide range of online materials to support self-study
  • writing and working towards your final assessment
