You will engage in study of the dynamic field of political geography. You will learn to make connections between global, national, and local scales.

You will explore geographical approaches through a variety of case studies. These will cover various political debates and conflicts.

You will engage with a variety of materials. These will range from theoretical writing to documentary sources and field evidence. As part of the module you will also:

  • attend a day field trip
  • write essays
  • undertake field analysis
  • reflect on local political geographies

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn key approaches of geopolitical analysis
  • study the dynamic field of political geography including global, national, and local scales
  • learn the development of political geography. You will learn to engage with contemporary theoretical approaches to this
  • develop knowledge of geographies of activism and resistance.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand key approaches and critiques of geopolitical analysis. You will understand how they have changed and developed over time
  • understand the development of political geography and engage with contemporary theoretical approaches
  • undertake field-based analysis of the political geographies of the devolved state. You will do this through use of a field diary and analytical writing. The use of a field diary will allow you to exhibit ethnographic and observational skills
