You will build and develop skills relating to planning, undertaking, and communicating research. You will undertake specific training in effective research project planning.

You will work and be assessed in a group. You will contribute to planning, writing, and reviewing a research funding proposal. Individual competency is assessed by the production of a research project proposal. This will provide an essential planning opportunity for the later research project module.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn best practice in approaching and planning a research report
  • develop transferable, employability, and enterprise skills and attributes
  • learn subject-specific practical and intellectual skills

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand requirements and best practice in conceptualising and planning a research project
  • use your skills to plan, develop, and write a research proposal including organising and costing a schedule of work
  • give confident oral presentations and communicate effectively in a variety of written formats

A conference-style intensive teaching block. This will include specific sessions covering introductory topics on:

  • research planning
  • presentation skills
  • teamwork
  • research ethics.

An open door policy operates for support after the intensive block. There are also timetabled drop-in sessions with the module convenor.
