In this module, you will gain a Master’s-level experience of a substantive piece of research in the field of neuroscience. This will cover the research's design, execution, and communication.
Most projects will be laboratory-based. You will be embedded into a research group within the Schools of Medicine or Life Sciences. During this time you will be supervised by an academic member of staff.
There will also be opportunities for non-laboratory learning. These can be data analysis, systematic review / meta-analysis, or questionnaire-based projects.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- show competence in a range of advanced practical skills or research procedures in your chosen area
- perform appropriate analysis of research findings
- communicate research findings both orally and in writing
- evaluate the contribution of your own research to current knowledge and understanding in the field
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
- critically evaluate published research relevant to the project
- work independently and take responsibility for your research
- work within the ethical framework relevant to your project
Assignments / assessment
- supervisor’s assessment of project performance (10%)
- quality of lab book / project notebook (5%)
- poster presentation of research results (5%)
- oral presentation of research results (5%)
- 5,000-6,000-word written project report (75%)
- This will be in the format of a journal article
This module does not have a final exam.
