You will build upon what you learned in 1st year. You will expand your knowledge on the care of children and young people in a variety of settings.
You will also explore evidence-based nursing care for children, young people, and their families. This will look at common conditions they experience.
You will learn more about clinical assessment strategies and considerations for safeguarding.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- develop learning about topics such as:
- body systems and homeostasis
- human anatomy and physiology
- biology
- genomics
- pharmacology
- social sciences
- explore social and behaviour sciences. This will enhance your ability to conduct thorough nursing assessments
- cultivate awareness of patient-centred care
- learn to assess an individual's capacity to make decisions about their care. You will also learn how to obtain informed consent
- develop skills for working in partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues in caring for children, young people and their families
- hone skills for working in partnership with children, young people and their families
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- understand more about body systems and homeostasis, human anatomy and physiology, biology, genomics, pharmacology, and social sciences relevant to nursing care for children and young people
- demonstrate proficiency in conducting nursing assessments
- develop comprehensive care plans
- develop confidence in facilitating shared decision-making processes, adjusting agreed goals as necessary, documenting progress, and collaborating effectively with children, young people, and their families
- acquire skills to assess an individual's capacity to make decisions regarding their care and provide informed consent
- show your ability to work in partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues and children and families
Assignments / assessment
- online exam assessment (100%)
- The assessment is an online 2-hour timed short answer question exam. It is based on a scenario you will see in advance of the exam.
