Biography

Abbas obtained his PhD from the University of Tabriz in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Bahrami, in collaboration with Prof. Heinrich Voss from TUHH. He joined Yasuj University as an assistant professor in 2012 and moved to Wits University in South Africa as an associate professor in 2022. In 2024, Abbas joined the University of Dundee.

His research focuses on PDE-constrained optimization problems in science and technology. Abbas and his collaborators have addressed a variety of challenges, such as developing optimal chemotherapy plans to combat brain tumors, maximizing species populations governed by stationary diffusive logistic equations, determining optimal material distributions for minimum basic frequency in membranes, designing mechanical vibrations to  enhance  robustness of membranes, and investigating maximum load potential in uniform elastic plates hinged at their boundaries.

Abbas enjoys sharing his passion for Applied Mathematics and its real-life applications through science festivals, school visits, and public lectures. He values diversity and inclusivity, collaborating with researchers of different genders and ethnicities from four continents.
