Biography
Dr Atiqur Rahman is a Lecturer in Public Health department at the University of Dundee. He studied Anthropology (MSS) at Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and MCSW degree in Clinical Social Work at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also obtained a post-master’s degree in Smart Community Design and Management from University of Trento, Italy. He spent a year working as a researcher at University of New England, Australia and a year at York University, Canada.
Dr Rahman completed his PhD as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow in 2023 in Ageing and Social Change from Linköping University, Sweden. His doctoral research was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme EuroAgeism. His doctoral thesis a) contributed to the understanding of eldercare utilization among the older adults aged 65+ in Sweden, and b) examined how dementia diagnosis and other social background factors such as age, gender, and cohabitation status of the individual influence the eldercare utilization.
Research
Dr Atiqur Rahman is a trained anthropologist with research interests at the intersection of public health and social gerontology. He is a mixed methods researcher, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. He has conducted research in various health-related fields. Additionally, he has experience in doing different types of literature reviews, including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and realist synthesis.

Teaching
Currently, Dr Rahman is teaching and co-leading two modules (1) public health and (2) research methodology at the postgraduate level. He is also supervising MPH dissertation students.
