Biography
Born in Dundee and brought up in neighbouring Angus, Marcus Flucker is an International Relations and Politics undergraduate at the University of Dundee and the Independent Student Member of Court.
Outside of his studies, Marcus works part time in the hospitality industry and is a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament representing his home constituency of Angus South. As a member of the Education and Lifelong Learning Committee and later as the Youth Parliament’s representative on the Scottish Education Council, he has become familiar Scotland’s education policy landscape.
As an MSYP, Marcus has campaigned on issues ranging from local bus services to climate change, recently collaborating with another MSYP to compile a report detailing young people’s views on single-use disposable vapes. The ‘Single Use: Many Voices’ report was referenced in the Scottish Parliament and cited by the Scottish Government as evidence for the Environmental Protection (Single-use vapes) (Scotland) Regulations 2024.
Marcus is active in a number of societies on campus and spent a year as a Class Rep and a member of the Student Representative Council before being elected to Court. He is also a Trustee of Project Sonrisa, a youth-led mental health charity.
