Biography
Rania completed her MBChB in 2006. She then took a Master in Medical Education, completing her PhD in Medical Education at Suez Canal University/ Egypt in 2016 with a thesis entitled: “Design, implementation and evaluation of a blended Integrated Course in a Problem Based Learning Program”. Thereafter, Rania joined Leeds Institute of Medical Education (2016/2017) as a post-doctoral fellow where she worked with the Technology enhanced learning and clinical skills team on a research project titled “Local and global dimensions of a clinical skills e-book development”. Rania is passionate about Medical Education and has enjoyed her transition from medical practice to academia.
Rania joined the University of Dundee as an external part-time tutor in 2018 then as a lecturer at the Centre of Medical Education.
She had several leadership positions in her previous role at Suez Canal University. She has also supervised and mentored undergraduate, Master and PhD students on different projects and continues to do the same for her current role. Rania has also a fellowship of The Higher Education Academy (Advance HE)
Research
Rania’s key research interests are Technology Enhanced Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Creative Pedagogy. She is also interested in exploring Wellbeing, Learning environment, and Professional Identity development.
She has experience in conducting mixed methods research. She has also the expertise of working collaboratively with a research team. She contributed as a co-investigator in a project led by Maternal and infant health (University of British Colombia/ Canada). This COVID Catalyst study was aimed at improving Women’s Health for a more equitable post-pandemic world. The study was followed by a social media campaign for mental health wellbeing “Break the Stigma”.
She is currently the principal investigator of a project exploring the perception of different stakeholders on using gamification in medical education.
Teaching
Master of Medical Education Programme
Rania leads Learning and Teaching in Medical Education and is deputy on the Technology Enhanced Learning module. She contributes to the masters, supervising dissertation students.
PhD
Rania is also a member of the research postgraduate community at the school of Medicine and co leading a subcommittee which is overseeing PhD applications at CME.
