Biography

Salisu is a nurse with specialist expertise in infection prevention and control. His career spans several organisations and contexts, including roles as an infection preventionist, a trainer in infection prevention and behaviour change communication and as an international infection control consultant during the Ebola outbreak response. He began his academic career as a lecturer in Nigeria before joining the University of Dundee. 

Research

Salisu’s broader research agenda centres on enhancing the quality and safety of healthcare through the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections, control of antimicrobial resistance and prevention of community-acquired infections. He also maintains a sound interest in epidemiological studies related to infections, particularly as they inform infection prevention strategies and health systems strengthening. His doctoral research focused on the development and psychometric evaluation of a CAUTI prevention knowledge measurement instrument. Salisu has expertise and a strong methodological interest in scale development for measurement in healthcare workers. His current work also explores the utilisation of computer-adapted testing (CAT) in healthcare, enhancing care outcomes for individuals with indwelling medical devices and implementation science research.
