Biography
Susan works jointly within the Centre for Medical Education and the Dundee Institute for Healthcare Simulation where she is lead for the simulation programs, pathways and modules.
Susan’s education, scholarship and research interests are focused on simulation-based education in health professions education. Susans master’s research explored simulation through a socio-material lens and for her PhD studies undertook a realist review and realist evaluation of a national simulation intervention funded by NHS Education for Scotland. She now supervises master’s and PhD research students with qualitative research interests in simulation-based and health professions education. She is committed to creating scholarly collaborations and nurturing research opportunities with academic and clinical colleagues, and this has led to several published works and vibrant conference outputs which have raised the profile of simulation-based education in health professions education in Dundee.
Susan has substantial experience of international collaborations working with and in overseas institutions designing and delivering simulation faculty development courses and master’s level curricula. She is a registered nurse, who specialised in intensive care working in the NHS in London and Scotland and in clinical education before pursuing an academic career.
