Biography

Tamara Richardson is an accomplished contemporary artist and award-winning professional with extensive experience in higher education, particularly in public and community engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) and has furthered her academic experience through an exchange program at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD). Tamara's career is distinguished by her artist led approach to managing and delivering exhibitions, displays, and community engagement initiatives within the arts sector.

Public and Community Engagement Coordinator

Tamara plays a crucial role at DJCAD and the University of Dundee, emphasizing the significance of Culture and Art as well as Public and Community Engagement. Her work supports transformative community partnerships, ensuring alignment with the university's priorities through sustainable and inclusive practices.
In her role, Tamara:

  •  Manages DJCAD’s exhibitions and displays, excluding those at the Cooper Gallery, including planning, curation, and execution.
  • Provides support and acts as deputy for the DJCAD Associate Dean for Public and Community Engagement.
  • Facilitates communication between the University and V&A Dundee.
  • Oversees the scheduling and management of DJCAD display areas and exhibitions.
  • Coordinates internal communication strategies for DJCAD.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with staff, external partners, and stakeholders, ensuring effective teamwork and decision-making.
  • Collaborates with the DJCAD School Event Production lead to synchronize public-facing activities.

Tamara is actively engaged in several key committees and networks:

  • University Culture and Art Committee: As a member and secretary, she enhances communication about cultural activities and advocates for how Culture and Arts support the University’s educational and recruitment goals.
  • Public Engagement Forum: As DJCAD’s Public Engagement Champion, Tamara helps implement the University’s Public Engagement Strategy and advocates best practices to position the University of Dundee as a leader in public engagement.
  • Dundee's Cultural Agencies Network: Serving as secretary, she fosters collaboration, supports Dundee’s Culture Strategy, and strengthens external stakeholder relationships.
  • Public Engagement Network: As a member of this staff and student group, Tamara supports the embedment of DJCAD’s public and community engagement activities within the broader university community.
