EAES Laparoscopic Lower GI Surgery
This is an intensive, four-day course focusing on the laparoscopic approaches to the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract

This will be a practical skills course where attendees will master a variety of tissue approximation techniques. The following laparoscopic procedures will be rehearsed in the skills laboratory: laparoscopic suturing, laparoscopic anatomy demonstration on Thiel embalmed cadaver, parastomal hernia, rectopexy and rectal resection. There will be several expert sessions covering aspects of advanced lower GI surgery involving clinicians from across Europe, with a live operative demonstration.
Suitable attendees are Surgical Trainees (SPR 5-6) and Consultant Surgeons who have extensive experience of conventional lower GI procedures and are already undertaking routine laparoscopic cases.
Candidates should be at the point of commencing practice of some of the procedures to be covered in the course, with appropriate supervision/mentorship.

- How to form a plan for starting out in your own clinical training for lap colorectal cases
- To outline the important anatomical considerations related to laparoscopic colectomy
- The risks inherent in use of energised dissection and means of avoiding complications related to such devices
- To demonstrate certain key skills related to lap colorectal surgery.
- The positioning of trocars and instruments according to basic ergonomic principles
- The safe laparoscopic dissection techniques & safe deployment of a laparoscopic stapling device
