Charting My Path to Forensic Accounting

From a diverse academic background to pursuing an MSc in Professional Accountancy, Aswani journey has been one of growth and learning

I'm Aswani Haridas from Kerala, India. My background includes a Bachelor's in Commerce, a Masters in Animation & Multimedia Engg, an MA in Political Science, a Diploma in Financial Accounting, and certifications in Tally and SAP. Choosing to pursue an MSc in Professional Accountancy from a diverse background was a challenging decision, but ultimately, it was a highly rewarding one for me.

I'm currently on an exciting journey pursuing an MSc in Professional Accountancy at the University of Dundee, School of Business. Reflecting on my path, it's been a blend of dedication, learning, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Each step in my life has been a unique experience, further enhancing my understanding, passion, and technical expertise in financial management and accounting processes.

When I chose the University of Dundee, School of Business, I was looking for a place that not only offers academic excellence but also supports personal and professional growth. I found that the School of Business perfectly aligns with my career aspirations. The programme’s comprehensive curriculum, covering everything from financial reporting to auditing, coupled with its focus on practical, real-world application, stood out to me. The opportunity to learn from experienced faculty members and engage with the industry through various events and projects was a key factor in my decision. Additionally, the strong career support offered by the university helps students transition smoothly into the professional world. The career service provided by the university is exceptional, offering guidance and resources that have been incredibly valuable in planning and advancing my career.

One of the significant advantages of the MSc in Professional Accountancy, provided by the School of Business, is that it provides nine paper exemptions in the ACCA qualification, which greatly accelerates the path to becoming a qualified accountant. 

Being honoured as the Taught Postgraduate Representative for Professional Accountancy has been a highlight, giving me the chance to contribute and grow even more. The vibrant student community and the university's commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment are making my time here truly transformative.

Career Journey

Looking ahead, I am planning to specialise in forensic accounting. It's a field that perfectly aligns with my passion for financial systems, fraud detection, and forensic analysis. My goal is to protect organisations from fraud and ensure the integrity of financial practices. Additionally, I'm working towards completing the ACCA qualification, which will further solidify my expertise in financial reporting and fraud prevention.

Tips for Balancing University Life and Preparing for a Career

I would highly recommend the MSc in Professional Accountancy programme to others. The comprehensive curriculum and the supportive environment provided by the of Business have made my experience truly rewarding and I am confident it will be the same for future students. The strong career support and the nine paper exemptions in the ACCA qualification are significant advantages that set this program apart.
