The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship is available to mid-senior level professionals in the energy sector in China. Participants spend three months at the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law Policy (CEPMLP) as a visiting Chevening Fellow.
Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
Only three UK Universities host Chevening Fellowships for candidates from China. The University of Dundee’s partnership with Chevening is a testament to its expertise and research in energy reform. Prof Xiaoyi (Shawn) Mu, Chair of Energy Economics at CEPMLP, and Academic Lead for Partnerships at the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law at the University of Dundee, developed this partnership in 2016.
Fellowship applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria and attend interviews to be successful. The interview panel includes Prof Xiaoyi (Shawn) Mu, and representatives from British embassies and high commissions.
During the interview, applicants will discuss their proposed research with the University of Dundee. If the application is successful, the Fellow will conduct this research at the University with guidance from Lecturers and Professors. Fellows have unrestricted access to the University’s classes, lectures, and seminars to support their research. After completing their studies at the University, Fellows return to China and become part of a global network of Chevening alumni.
Chevening Fellow 2023, Ms An Qi, Associate Research Professor, Energy Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Macroeconomic Research, National Development and Reform Commission, said, “Participating in the Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship was an enriching and reinvigorating experience. Integrating learning modules and tailored thematic research with ongoing policy discussions effectively translated fresh academic insights into practical impacts.
“Interacting with enthusiastic and insightful professionals at CEPMLP created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere. Moreover, Dundee exudes a newfound charm following revitalisation investments. The River Tay and the breathtaking Scottish landscapes add a splendid backdrop to this academically fulfilling journey.”
