Glyn Morgan secured a Graduate Environment Consultant role at a renewable energy consultancy
Glyn explains how the knowledge gained from his MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Modelling has positively impacted his career

Glyn Morgan graduated from the MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Modelling programme in 2023. This sustainability programme teaches sustainability principles and how to facilitate sustainable change.
Prior to studying MSc in Sustainability and Environmental Modelling, Glyn obtained an undergraduate degree in Geography. Following the successful completion of his master’s degree, Glyn secured a position at a renewable energy consultancy in Edinburgh called Green Cat Renewables.
Speaking specifically about his new position as a Graduate Environment Consultant, Glyn said, “I work as part of the planning and environmental team, which undertakes the various environmental assessments required to form planning applications for renewable energy projects at a range of scales, including wind, battery and solar.
“My role is very varied - I use software such as QGIS to create various maps that are submitted alongside applications, use specialist wind farm visualisation software to create visualisations of what a wind farm would look like from nearby viewpoints if constructed, and also undertake assessments on topics such as landscape and visual impact and carbon balance.
“I also have the opportunity to travel around the country, both to take photos that are used to create these visualisations and also to attend public consultation events for proposed projects. This means engaging with communities who have varying views on renewable energy, which is an eye-opening experience!”
Summarising his time at the University of Dundee, Glyn explains how the knowledge he gained positively impacted his career. “The MSc was extremely useful for me and very relevant to what I do now. For example, a GIS module taught me how to use the software, which I now use every day and is a great skill to have.
“Another module covered financial modelling of renewables projects and calculating whether or not they will pay back over time, which is a key consideration for clients that we deal with, so we focus on this in feasibility studies.
“More generally, I had lots of opportunities to improve on report writing and team-working skills, which are key both for communicating with colleagues and dealing with clients.
“In terms of my job-hunting experience, I feel that the range of topics covered across the programme allowed me to target my applications for jobs with what was being asked for, which was very helpful. I think the MSc gives you many of the skills and qualities employers are looking for, but I had to apply for many jobs before getting to an interview stage, so it is important to not lose hope.”
Studying the MSc Sustainability and Environmental Modelling programme provides individuals with the skills and knowledge to address today’s sustainability challenges.
