A hidden gem for International Students: My Experience with TargetJobs Pathways for International Students

A Careers Ambassador writes about their experience looking for jobs in the UK

Published on 6 March 2025

As an international student, figuring out the UK job market can feel like solving a puzzle without all the pieces. What do UK employers want? How do you even begin finding work experience? And what are your options after graduating? If you’ve ever had these questions swirling in your head, you’re not alone—I’ve been there too. I was thrilled to stumble across the TargetJobs Pathways for International students through the Careers Portal. They’re not just helpful—they’re a total game-changer for me.

Discovering the guides

I’ll be honest, finding these guides wasn’t exactly straightforward. They’re a bit tucked away on the Careers Portal, but just click on Pathways, then scroll down to those that start with “Help”, and you will find it right away. Or just use these link to head straight there!

Once I started reading, I realized these guides were exactly what I’d been looking for: practical advice tailored to international students like me.

What it was like using them

These guides are easy to work through. Each one took me less than 20 minutes to read, making them perfect for squeezing into a coffee break or study downtime. The advice is clear, direct, and written in a way that feels genuinely supportive—like having a career mentor cheering you on.

Why I’d recommend it

What I love most about these guides is how practical they are. They’re not full of vague advice instead, they give you specific, actionable steps to take and they have some revision sessions for you at the end. Even though the guides aren’t the easiest to find, they’re worth the effort. It’s like uncovering a hidden gem—one that can genuinely help you take the next step in your career journey.

Final thoughts

If you’re an international student feeling overwhelmed by the job market, I can’t recommend the TargetJobs Pathways guides for International Students enough. They’re quick to use.
