From India to the UK: My transformational journey into Finance

Pavithra Sundaravaradan shares her journey from India to Scotland, pursuing a Master’s in Professional Accountancy

My name is Pavithra Sundaravaradan, and in 2023, I graduated with a Master’s degree in Professional Accountancy from the University of Dundee School of Business. Coming from India, I made the bold decision to move to the UK to pursue this course—not just to study abroad, but to invest in my future and grow both personally and professionally.

I chose this programme because of its ACCA exemptions, international reputation, and practical approach to accounting and finance. The course offered exactly what I needed: a chance to deepen my knowledge, enhance my qualifications, and open doors to global career opportunities.

From day one, the School of Business provided strong academic support, hands-on learning, and a collaborative environment. The professors encouraged critical thinking, and the curriculum was designed to reflect real-world business challenges. That foundation gave me the confidence and competence to step into the finance industry with purpose.

Soon after graduating, I began my career as a Finance Assistant at the University of St Andrews, one of Scotland’s most prestigious institutions. It was a great stepping stone where I gained valuable experience and insight into UK financial systems. Today, I work as a Finance Analyst at NCR Atleos, where I focus on financial planning, reporting, and business analysis. Each day brings new challenges, and I thrive on the opportunity to turn numbers into strategies.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been qualifying with CIMA, further reinforcing my skills and expanding my professional toolkit. Balancing work and study wasn’t easy, but it was incredibly rewarding.

To anyone considering a similar path—especially international students—my advice is: take the leap. Studying this degree in the UK is more than just an academic journey; it's a personal transformation. Be proactive, stay curious, and never stop learning. The School of Business equips you not just with a degree, but with the mindset and confidence to succeed globally.
