MP visits the School of Business to discuss the Help to Grow: Management Programme
The School of Business recently welcomed Dave Doogan, MP for Angus and Perthshire Glens, for a meeting with local business leaders and academic representatives

The event, designed to strengthen ties between academia, industry, and government, featured Andrew Kinnear, Director of the Help to Grow: Management programme at the School of Business, alongside the School’s Dean, Professor Morris Altman, and Professor Keith Dinnie. They were joined by Christine Donaldson of Strathmore Woollens and Shona Young of Nutscene Ltd, two prominent business owners from Forfar and alumni of the schools Help to Grow programme.
Held at the school, the meeting highlighted the University’s commitment to engaging with the local business community through its delivery of the UK Government's majority-funded Help to Grow: Management programme.
Mr Doogan's attendance was particularly significant, underscoring the vital role of government in supporting initiatives that bridge academia and industry. He expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and its potential positive impact on local businesses.
Christine Donaldson and Shona Young also shared insights into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by their businesses. They commended the University’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, noting the positive impact the programme had on their own operations.
Dean Morris Altman emphasised the importance of such partnerships, reinforcing the School of Business’s mission to act as a catalyst for economic growth in the region. Andrew Kinnear provided an overview of the Help to Grow programme, which offers tailored support to SMEs seeking to enhance their management and leadership capabilities.
This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening ties between the University of Dundee, the local business community, and government representatives, paving the way for future collaborations aimed at driving sustainable growth in the region.
