My name is Avani, and I recently completed my Master’s degree in International Banking, Finance, and Investment Management with distinction from the University of Dundee, School of Business. I will be graduating in June 2025. I’m from Mumbai, India, and I had applied to several universities for my Master’s. However, after visiting the Dundee campus and reviewing the courses offered, I applied without a second thought — and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I chose this course because it covers everything you need to know about finance, investment, and banking. What really impressed me was how well it combined theory with practical experience — it wasn’t just about learning concepts but actually applying them. The degree equipped me with strong analytical skills and hands-on training with industry-standard software like Bloomberg and Refinitiv. It also confers a Chartered Banker status, which is a significant advantage in the industry.

I had the opportunity to intern at a Spanish company as an Investor Relations Analyst, which broadened my perspective and gave me valuable firsthand experience of working in a professional environment. My experience with the lecturers was fantastic — all of them were industry experts, and even casual conversations with them offered valuable insights into starting a career in finance. I am especially grateful to Dr. Murat Mazibas and Dr. Stavros Kourtzidis, who made my MSc journey so positive and enriching.

What truly makes the School of Business stand out is the level of support you receive. As an international student, I faced the usual challenges of adjusting to a new environment, but the support from the local community, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff made a huge difference. Everyone genuinely cares about your success, which helped me feel more confident and motivated throughout the course.

The career services are incredibly valuable, and building relationships with your lecturers can open many doors. Balancing studies and career preparation can be challenging, but participating in extracurricular activities helps you relax and gives you an edge in interviews. I worked as a Student Engagement Ambassador for the university, which helped me develop my soft skills and allowed me to make many meaningful friendships.

I would absolutely recommend this Master’s course to future students. The combination of academic knowledge, practical skills, and staff support made my time here truly valuable. This degree has given me a strong foundation in both theoretical and real-world skills that will set me up for success. You won’t just gain knowledge from this course — you’ll meet great people and have an incredible experience that you’ll cherish forever.
