School of Business welcomes social entrepreneur Kirsty Thomson as new Professor in Practice

Social entrepreneur Kirsty joins the School of Business in a voluntary role to share real-world insight and inspire the next generation of leaders

We’re delighted to welcome Kirsty Thomson as one of our newest Professor in Practice at the School of Business. With over 23 years of experience in the charity and social enterprise sector, Kirsty brings a wealth of real-world expertise to our students and has raised over £15 million in funding in her career to date. Her voluntary role will focus on sharing practical insights and mentoring students.

Kirsty said “It’s an honour to support entrepreneurship for all and make a real difference. I am passionate about giving students the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become future leaders who drive positive change.”

Kirsty is the founder of several impactful organisations, including The Circle and The Circle Learning Foundation. She is widely recognised for her work in the More Than Profit® movement. Kirsty is also the CEO of The Big House SCIO, a Scottish charity that redistributes surplus goods to families living in poverty through an innovative circular economy model.

Her expertise in social entrepreneurship, funding strategy, and ethical leadership will be invaluable to the School of Business. In addition, Kirsty is also a Fellow of Royal Society of Arts Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA).

Professors in Practice are leaders in their industry who volunteer to share their real-world practical knowledge with colleagues and students across the School of Business.
