Staff and students at the School of Medicine came together last week to support University Mental Health Day, taking part in a series of wellbeing activities while raising funds for Student Minds.
The week began with a staff vs student cycling challenge, where staff claimed victory by covering 193.52 km compared to the students’ 168.08 km. The event was competitive but fun, with participants encouraging each other throughout the day.
Lunchtime activities included a Wii challenge, where staff and students battled it out on ABBA Dance and Mario Kart. Tess Anderson and Dr Richard Oparka were crowned winners after some closely contested rounds.
Other wellbeing activities included mindfulness sessions, yoga, music, and guided nature walks, giving participants a chance to relax and reflect. The week wrapped up with a visit from therapy dogs from Canine Connections and a popular baking competition, with Megan Grozier and Dr Kalpana Ragupathy taking the top prizes.
A total of £371 has been raised so far for Student Minds, with donations still open until 28 March. More mindfulness sessions will be scheduled at Ninewells, and the piano in the main medical school reception area remains available for anyone to enjoy.
The Student Support Team thanked everyone who took part and contributed, highlighting the strong sense of community throughout the week.
Lead organiser and School of Medicine senior Lecturer, Audrey Gregory said, “It was fantastic to see so many staff and students getting involved, not just in the activities but in supporting each other. The sense of community was incredible, and we’re grateful for everyone who helped raise funds for Student Minds."
