My name is Immaculate Nabyoto, and I am currently pursuing an MSc in Finance with the anticipation of graduating in 2025. I am a full-time student at the School of Business, University of Dundee, and I’m from Uganda.
I chose to study at the School of Business because of its strong industry connections and specialised curriculum. The MSc Finance programme offers different pathways tailored to align with students' career goals. It is designed to equip students with skills and knowledge relevant to CFA. In addition, it provides a head start in professional accounting qualifications (ACCA) by offering exemptions for three papers upon successful completion of the programme, which is another area of my interest.
The programme provides analytical skills through modules that cover investment strategies and corporate finance. It also focuses on problem-solving and the development of critical thinking skills through case studies and real-world financial scenarios.
The best thing about the school is its dedication to involving industry professionals in the classroom. This helps students understand how the concepts they learn in their courses are applied in real-world financial settings.
Balancing university life and preparing for a career can be challenging. My advice to students is to start early by attending industry events hosted by the University, such as JP Morgan programmes. These events provide opportunities for internships and job placements. Additionally, they should make use of the Career Support Service to review and improve their CVs. Participating in other activities organized by the University, like the Business Challenge, not only equips students with different skills but also provides certificates that enhance their résumé.
Absolutely, I would recommend this course. I would also recommend the School of Business and the University of Dundee to anyone who wants to build a career in finance. The program prepares students not only to grasp financial concepts but also to apply them in real-world business challenges.
