After 21 games, it was the University of Dundee that reigned victorious and lifted the Tay Varsity Challenge Trophy for the 16th time, beating our opponents from Abertay University, 18-3.
The sun shone throughout the day, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the city's biggest amateur sporting event, which saw an incredible turnout and plenty of cheers. The competition spanned across multiple venues, featuring sports such as football, rugby, hockey, basketball, netball, swimming, archery, tennis, badminton, pool, and golf.

The action kicked off at Sport and Active Health (SpAH), where tennis, archery, and netball drew enthusiastic crowds decked out in varsity t-shirts, face paint, and homemade signs. Over at Riverside Playing Fields, supporters gathered to cheer on rugby, football, and hockey teams.
Adding to the festivities at Riverside were tunes from the Dundee Electronic Music Society (DEMS), a buzzing DUSA bar, and treats from local businesses Scooply and the No Pineapple Pizza Project – who’s ice cream and stone baked pizzas were a hit in the unexpected warm weather!
The day wrapped up with the highly anticipated basketball matches, performances from dance and cheerleading squads, and the grand finale - the award ceremony - where Dundee’s triumph was officially celebrated!
The University of Dundee Sports Union President, Mia Jennings said, “It is safe to say Varsity 2025 was a huge success! It was fantastic to see so many students - both competitive and non-competitive - coming together to show their support and cheer on both teams.
“There were some intense, closely contested matches, but the event itself created an incredible atmosphere and lifted everyone’s spirits. I’m delighted that Dundee gets to keep the bragging rights for another year, with the trophy staying right where it belongs - in our cabinet!”
