Why I chose Business Management in Practice at School of Business

Haojia’s experience studying Business Management in Practice at the School of Business, highlighting the programme's real-world learning, career benefits, and future aspirations

My name is Haojia Wang, and I’m from China. Currently in my second year of the 3-year Business Management in Practice programme at the University of Dundee, School of Business. The University's stellar academic reputation and the course's focus on real-world business case studies and practical experience were the main reasons I picked this programme, as I believe these aspects will be extremely helpful for my future professional development.

I have gained leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills throughout my studies, all of which are essential for achieving my professional goals. My current managerial skills have been shaped by the invaluable practical experience I gained during my first year at the International College Dundee (ICD) programme, which allowed me to work in the real business world while studying.

As my degree is only three years long, it can be challenging and intense, especially with group work and presentations. However, with great organisation, it can also be highly rewarding, making these challenges worthwhile.

Moreover, I completed an internship at a bank, which allowed me to put the theoretical knowledge I had acquired into practice. This experience gave me insights into the financial sector and helped me clarify my professional path.

I am considering postgraduate or PhD studies to expand my future employment opportunities, even though I haven't decided on a specific career path yet. Throughout this journey, the University of Dundee's Careers Service has been invaluable in helping me explore various job options. I believe that current students should prioritise extracurricular activities and real-world experience. The foundation for success after graduation depends on balancing career and academic planning with effective time management.

All in all, my time at the School of Business has not only enhanced my academic standing but also helped me define my future professional goals. I would highly recommend this programme to others because it offers top-notch learning resources and opportunities for professional growth.
