How the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship helped me build my future
Ayush shares how the Centre for Entrepreneurship at Dundee has shaped his future goals

When I first applied to Dundee, I was focused on my degree and student life. But there was something I didn’t expect – the incredible impact the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE) would have on my experience at university. Now, as I look ahead to my future career, I can confidently say that the CfE has played a huge role in shaping my goals, and it could do the same for you.
More than what meets the eye
The idea of “entrepreneurship” might sound intimidating, or you think it’s only for business students. That’s what I thought at first. But CfE offers something for everyone. One of the main focuses is developing enterprising and interpersonal skills – essential for any profession. Whether you’re interested in science, arts, medicine, or (like me) dentistry, CfE is there to help you think creatively and develop skills that will make you stand out.
So, what does the CfE offer?
There are coaching sessions, where experienced mentors help you refine your ideas and give you practical advice. Then there are workshops and masterclasses on everything from pitching your idea to raising funds for a new startup (through Venture - the largest Scottish university pitching competition) or managing a project. For me, it was reassuring to know that I wasn’t expected to have all the answers right away. There’s guidance at every step, and rather than theoretical learning, it’s interactive, real-world learning.
You’re never alone in your journey
One of the things I’ve loved the most about the CfE is the community it creates within its open access, cutting-edge building. When I first joined, I was anxious about developing an idea by myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find others in similar positions to me. It is a collaborative space where people from all backgrounds come together to share ideas and innovate together. CfE was a fantastic space for me not only to improve my skills but to also make some incredible friends. Plus, the staff are amazing – they genuinely want to help you succeed and are always available for advice or just a chat.
Events that make a difference
Their standout event is the Enterprise Challenge – an eight-week, extra-curricular enterprise skills training programme, which is a competition that pushes you to pitch and develop your own innovative idea. It sounds daunting at first, but you are given ample encouragement, plenty of preparation time and support to create the idea that you have imagined. I received a skills certificate from completing the Enterprise Challenge and it helped me gain confidence, sharpen my presentation skills, and, most importantly, it gave me a taste of what’s possible when you put yourself out there. These events are fun but are also designed to give you practical experience and connect you with mentors and even potential investors.
Ready to shape your own path?
Looking back, I’m so grateful that I got involved with CfE because it has opened up opportunities I didn’t even know existed, and it’s given me skills that will stay with me long after I graduate. Whether you’re already brimming with ideas or just curious about what’s possible, the CfE is there to help you unlock your potential.
Creating opportunities for students, staff, and recent graduates to develop their enterprise skills and supporting new business ventures with funding and mentoring.
