For me personally, counselling is a road I never thought that I'd cross. I mean, I had just gotten into the university of my dreams in the UK. I have a great group of friends and I'm exercising to keep my mood up and overall, I shouldn't have anything to worry about.
But as the nights got longer and the weather got colder, I realised that I needed help.
The University of Dundee offers counselling services and it was super easy for me to go online and book an appointment. The counselling session itself was so helpful. She helped me understand that the way that I was feeling was completely normal.
Another one of the resources that she sent me was the Sleepier App, which is basically there to try help me regulate my sleep. I'm sure a few people can relate, because I don't sleep.
She sent me the Student Guide, which also offered something that the Student Wellbeing Initiative has started recently called SWITCH, which basically helps you try to find different extracurricular activities that you can take part in at the university, different sporting teams that you can join or even taking part in volunteering initiatives.
But I think that the most important thing that I got from the counselling session was definitely the validation in how I was feeling.
And if you're like me and you need help, don't be scared to reach out.
