Hi Guys, I'm Nabeeha and I'm Lemuela and we are medical students at the University of Dundee and here are our top 10 tips for being a medical student. So, let's get started. Alright, so tip number one is stop comparing yourself to others. You learn differently from the way other people learn. You know more than you think. So, stop comparing yourself. It's going to be OK, you're going to get through it.
Number two is that you need to enjoy every single moment because you think you've got five years. But trust me, you don't like because these five years will go by so fast that you won't even realise, it's too quick.
Alright, so tip number three is work hard, play hard. I'm sorry but being a medic is not your personality trait. There is life outside medical school, so join that club, learn that hobby like, live your life.
Tip number four, you need to take care of yourself and eat well, sleep well because balance and discipline is so important not just in medical school but in your career as a doctor, so it prepares you for the future.
And tip number five is you will mess up. You won't always meet your expectations and sometimes you will fail, but that's OK. That does not make you who you are. That does not define you. Just learn from those mistakes. Don't make those mistakes again and grow from them.
Tip number six, the most important one I would say, you need to ask for help. Like you're not stupid to ask for help. You've got your lecturers who are more than happy to help you. You've got peer mentors, you've got support inside the medical school, inside the University main campus, Ninewells, everywhere. So, you know, don't be afraid to ask for help.
Tip number seven is Ninewells is not as far as you think. There are buses available, there's public transport, you can get to Ninewells, it’s not as far as you think it is, like a 10 minute bus ride.
Tip number eight, with medicine comes great responsibility. So, stay on top of your work so that it doesn’t pile up because we've been through it.
Tip number nine is make sure you use all your resources available. There is Anki, Brainscape, Passmed, Quesmed. There's so many resources and our most important one is Moodle. Moodle has all your class recordings, all your course lectures and it also has formative questions. So, make sure you use them
Tip number 10, the most the most important tip to survive the medical school if you come late to the lecture. First of all, don't come late to the lecture, what are you doing with your life?! But if you come late to the lecture, go through back door, don't use front door because you don't want to embarrass yourself. I've been through it. I've been embarrassed and learned from my mistakes. Don't do it. Alright, so that's it from us and good luck.
