What I love about living in university accommodation at the University of Dundee. So, the first thing that I love is how fast and easy it is to meet new people and make new friends. I've spent many evenings talking and laughing with my flatmates while cooking and getting to know each other better. I've also spoken to so many people that live in the building, all studying different degrees, all from different places, all playing different sports and in different societies. Something that's actually pretty cool is you get to decide what type of flatmate you're actually looking for.
You can choose to be in a flat with people of the same gender, or in a flat with mixed gender. You can choose if you want nights in, or if you want nights out, or if you want neat and tidy flatmates. Everybody is excited and everybody wants to meet new people, so it makes it extremely easy.
The second thing that I love about staying at the university accommodation is how close literally everything is. This obviously depends on exactly which accommodation you're in, but the majority of them are on campus. This means that all your lectures for a 2-minute walk away. The sports facilities and the gym are literally in your backyard. And because the university is so central within Dundee, all the shops, the local pubs, the club, parks, the waterfront are all within a 10-minute radius.
The third thing that I love about university accommodation is the independence that it gives you. For the majority of us, it's our first time actually living on our own. You can completely personalise your space and do whatever it is that you want.
For some people, it's going to be their first time experiencing this freedom. For others though, it might be their first time having to do grocery shopping, having to cook all of their own food, having to do their own laundry, cleaning, taking the trash out. So, you have the freedom of an adult, but you also have all of the responsibilities. Nobody's going to force you to do your coursework. It's all down to you. And at the end of the day, that's the reason you're at university.
