After studying Mathematics at Dundee, Aysem has had an exciting journey through analytics and digital transformation for over a decade, and she is now thrilled to be applying those skills to purpose-driven work.

She said, "It’s inspiring to be part of a company where every insight helps drive climate action."

Lauren Kersley, Mechanical Engineering with Renewables '18 and Renewable Energy and Environmental Modelling '19

The University’s hands-on approach to learning, including an unforgettable trip to the Isle of Eigg, helped Lauren focus a career interest on sustainability. This led her to continue at Dundee, specialising with a Renewable Energy and Environmental Modelling MSc.

Joining Urban Foresight, a sustainability consultancy firm in Dundee, in their electric mobility team, she worked closely with Dundee City Council on sustainable infrastructure projects. After just over two years, Lauren moved into a new role with Ameresco, where she now supports Bristol City Council with the rollout of EV charging points.

Lauren "wanted to do something that would have a real impact in making the planet greener" and that’s exactly what she is doing!

Ahmed Tarek El-Shanawany, Orthodontics '16

Portrait of Ahmed El-Shanawany

Since completing his degree, Ahmed earned the Bi-Collegiate Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) from both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, as well as the Membership of the Faculty of Dentistry (MFD) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

He later secured the MOrth from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and in September 2024, was elected as a Members' Representative to the Dental Council of RCSEd - a competitive and meaningful appointment.

Soon after, Ahmed was also awarded the Fellowship in Orthodontics as part of the College’s transition from Membership to Fellowship. Today, he serves proudly as both an orthodontic consultant and educator.

As he reflects on his journey, he says, “Dundee gave me more than a degree - it gave me a compass.”

Cyril Sebastian, Strategic Financial Management '10

Cyril's journey has taken him through roles at leading companies such as Infosys, Wrench Solutions, Lloyds Register, Bentley Systems, and Asite. In these positions, Cyril was exposed to the world of digital project delivery, which became the core of his expertise.

Today, based in Ireland, Cyril works as the Digital Construction Manager at Conack Construction. His focus is on driving digital transformation across various construction projects, utilising cutting-edge technology to improve project management, collaboration, and overall efficiency.

Reflecting on his time at Dundee, Cyril emphasises the lasting impact it has had on his professional life: "Looking back, my time at Dundee definitely played a key role in shaping the path I’ve taken."

Peter Scobbie, Business Intelligence '14

"I completed my course part-time over two years alongside working full time. Up to that point, I had been working in IT for 35 years, a major part of which included database development and administration.

"The MSc gave me the chance to formalise my data skills gained over many years, mainly due to application development and stakeholder management roles - delivering solutions for several departments across many industries.

"Initially, I did some Business Intelligence consultancy in the Oil Industry and followed that by returning to full time roles in two Fast-Moving Consumer Goods businesses (Salmon Farming and Berry Marketing/Sales) up to my retirement at the end of 2023, having then been in IT for 45 years - quite a journey!

"I couldn’t fully retire and now do some part time Business Intelligence Consultancy as and when - it’s great doing this when I control the calendar and being able to help provide business insights for my clients. So rewarding to see the difference it makes to add a little automation to every day ‘data drudgery’."

Rizz Vicente, Nursing '11

Portrait of Rizz Vicente

After over 40 years of nursing, Rizz is now on a new and uncharted path in his retirement. Rizz has clinical experience in many areas of nursing such as Neonatal ICU, Paediatric ICU, Adult ICU, Adult Forensic Psychiatry, and Juvenile Justice Behavioural Psychiatry.

Attaining his Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Dundee enhanced his ability to communicate more effectively and meaningfully with nursing students, and with the next generation of nurses alike.

Sumit Mondal, Fine Art '16

Portrait of Sumit Mondal

"I graduated from DJCAD in 2016, not only as a successful artist but also as an International Student Ambassador for the University. Life has never been the same since I started representing Dundee and UK education in India, now working closely with various transnational partners and organisations specialised in international education in my career.

"In my career I have gone on to be a Recruitment Advisor (in country representative - ICR) for the University of Exeter in India, before joining the University of Hull where I am currently enjoying my position as the International Recruitment Officer for India, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

"I cannot wait to be back very soon and meet my lovely Dundonians as 2025 is the year to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Masters at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design that changed my life for everything I consider the best!"

Charlotte Speechly/Dingman, Leading Learning and Teaching '17

"Since graduating, my path in education has taken me across countries, classrooms, and cultures from Italy to Japan and most recently to Dubai, where I live and teach while raising my daughter and embracing all the experiences that come with living abroad.

"As an early years specialist, I’ve always been drawn to the ways in which children learn through their environment; through connection, curiosity and a deep engagement with place. This passion has culminated in the recent publication of my first book, Beyond Walls, which explores how place-based and enquiry-led learning can transform the early years' experience.

"The book is both a reflection of my personal journey and a professional manifesto. Living in different countries across the world has only reinforced the ideas that I’ve seen where diverse and dynamic environments can enrich children’s understanding of the world and of themselves."
