You will examine how more sustainable futures can be achieved in practice.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- learn about sustainability principles in an international context. This will include key theories, policies, practice, and concepts. You will gain an appreciation of the contested nature of discourses in this area
- learn about the global context of sustainability. This will range from macro (global, national levels) to micro levels (local level). You will also cover from theory to policy and practice.
- develop critical interdisciplinary skills. This will enable you to link between disciplinary boundaries and professional sectors. This will emphasise the cross-cutting nature of sustainability issues
- develop skills to examine how individuals, and society move towards more sustainable practices
- learn to define current thinking, policy and practice
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- show a knowledge of relevant issues. You will understand the context, policy and drivers for sustainability and sustainable development
- show a basic understanding of exemplary best practice in this area. This will cover theory, policy, practice, and any limitations and constraints
- show an understanding of key sustainability principles and perspectives. These will inform your actions in pursuit of sustainable development. This will be inclusive of environment, economy and equity considerations
- analyse, evaluate and critically review theory and policy debates relating to sustainability
- apply different principles of sustainability to enable individual and societal shifts
Assignments / assessment
- 2,000-2,500 word essay on a sustainability challenge (50%)
- group project (50%)
