Environmental Law LLM
Develop your skills and knowledge to address today's global environmental challenges

Environmental law is a broad field which also covers sustainable development. It requires an interdisciplinary understanding and core legal knowledge. Our LLM Environmental Law covers the main environmental protection legal and policy issues.
Our course will help you to address major environmental challenges and drive change. You will enhance your skills and knowledge to help solve environmental problems. You will also develop your understanding of factors that impact environmental issues. These include political, social and economic factors.
Core module content is taught using a comparative approach. This enables you to apply the knowledge and skills you gain anywhere in the world.
We have an excellent staff-student ratio at the University of Dundee. LLM seminars are often delivered in small classes. This allows for higher quality discussions which greatly enhances the learning experience. You will be provided with reading and questions to work through in advance, so your classes will be highly participative and engaging.
You will study several core topics including:
- Environmental regulation
- International climate change law
- Water law
You will also complete an LLM dissertation on a relevant topic. This allows you to further develop your legal research and writing skills. Alternatively, you may complete an internship to gain more practical skills. Your internship will be in an area of law related to the LLM Environmental Law.
Our course gives you access to a wide range of interdisciplinary modules. These cover topics including energy and natural resources, sustainability, and human rights. This enables you to strengthen your knowledge and develop specialist interests. You will be taught by staff with global reputations in their field.
The University of Dundee hosts the Binks Sustainability Institute and the UNESCO Centre for Water Law Policy and Science.

Students may be able to apply for an internship to develop employability skills and gain valuable work experience.
