The module is designed to enable you to develop an advanced understanding of global and regional climate change, and to provide an objective and balanced understanding of the key terms and concepts associated with the development of the climate change debate as it has evolved over the last half-century.

One of the key aims of the module is to provide you with a set of skills that can be used in the critical evaluation of the observation, measurement, and interpretation of climate change data and patterns.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • critically evaluate the consequences of global climate changes
  • gain an awareness of the limitations associated with the reconstruction of past weather and climate
  • critically evaluate the evidence for climate change
  • evaluate the effectiveness of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and potential solutions

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • have an in-depth understanding of the key processes of global and regional climate change
  • gain a thorough understanding of the key literature on climate change
  • develop skills in paleoclimate reconstruction techniques
  • develop a critical awareness of the value and limitations of different types of climate data and models
  • develop key skills in the critical analysis of research literature
  • develop quantitative data analysis skills through investigation of a range of climate model outputs
