This module helps you learn how to design and carry out research. You will focus on population health topics and learn how to write a research proposal.
You'll learn about observational research, both quantitative and qualitative. This helps you identify the focus of the problem. You'll also learn about interventional studies. This helps you explore and test mechanisms of change. You'll also learn how to collect data, as well as how to analyse and interpret the findings.
By the end, you’ll have the knowledge and skills needed to design a research study and write-up a proposal.
What you will learn

- using scientific articles to support your research design
- the different stages of the research process
- writing a research plan with a clear timeline
- how to do a systematic review
- why good methods and quality checks matter
- research ethics and the role of ethics committees
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- review scientific articles related to population health research
- design a research study using strong evidence and the right methods
- match your study design to your research goals
- follow ethical rules in research
- plan and carry out a systematic review
- create a research question and search strategy
- choose which studies to include and check their quality
- collect and study data, write reports, and share your findings
- do a meta-analysis as part of a systematic review, including forest and funnel plots
