Students also often combine topics from different legal areas. For example, you could combine an understanding of corporate and commercial law with environmental law. Or you could combine an understanding of commercial law with human rights law.
This wide choice of modules allows you to develop existing areas of specialisation. You can also expand your knowledge into new areas of law that you have not studied or practised before.
The Law (General) LLM is delivered through student-led seminars. Students must arrive prepared for class and will work together through the course content. Our lecturers will direct and support you.
You will be assessed through written or oral exams, or written coursework assignments. You will also write a dissertation on a topic of your choice (10,000-12,000 words), or complete an internship.
The dissertation allows you to develop your legal skills further. These skills include research, writing and critical thinking. The internship allows you to gather practical work experience in an area of law related to the LLM.
As a University of Dundee student, you will have access to our general Library and to the Law Library. This will provide you with a great studying space and full access to resources on-site and online. Our excellent library staff are always happy to support you with your research needs.
Our Academic Skills Centre offers additional support with general academic skills. This may include academic writing or revision techniques.
We have an excellent staff-student ratio at the University of Dundee. LLM seminars are often delivered in small classes. This allows for higher quality discussions which greatly enhances the learning experience.
