Generating ideas and responding to research funding opportunities
Understanding the funding landscape, making your plan, finding funding opportunities and working with partners

In research funding
Funding application success depends on finding a good fit between the opportunity and the research you wish to undertake. Understanding the funding landscape for your area of research is essential to be able to apply to the right funder at the right time. Engagement with non-academic stakeholders is important in a research environment that looks for solutions to societal, cultural and economic challenges.
Understanding the funding landscape for your area of research is essential to be able to apply to the right funder at the right time.
Ask yourself:
- Why do you want to undertake this research project
- What are your aims? What do you want to achieve?
- Who will benefit from your research?
- How long will it take and what resources will you need?
- Who are your collaborators?
- What other sources of funding could be available, e.g. collaboration with industrial partners?

Creating a Pivot-RP account is easy: go to https://Pivot.proquest.com and click on ‘Create account’. You can log in with your institutional credentials or create an account with a password.
A wide range of helpful user guides can be found in the Pivot-RP Knowledge Centre – a good place to start is Getting Started with Pivot-RP. Video tutorials are also available on the Pivot-RP YouTube website. Information and support is available through the blue ‘Help’ button on any Pivot-RP page.
