Build and design tomorrow’s world with a Civil and Structural Engineering MEng degree, combining design, technology, construction, and leadership. Learn how to create and maintain urban and natural environments, such as:
- bridges
- buildings
- foundations
- water systems
- renewable energy platforms
- environmental standards
Our MEng degree in Civil and Structural Engineering degree gives you a strong foundation in key areas such as:
- geomechanics for foundations
- structural analysis
- surveying
- modern design software
- sustainable materials and construction
- fluid mechanics and water resources
- project management and leadership
- interdisciplinary industrial design standards
You’ll also learn to design creative and practical solutions for real-world problems and shape a sustainable future. Teamwork is central to the course, helping you build communication and collaboration skills.
In your fourth year you will carry out an individual research project in a specialised area which will shape the Engineer you will become. You will also bring the entire degree together in a conceptual design project which plans a new public building from bottom to top.
In your final year, you’ll turn the conceptual design project into engineering reality, completing a major interdisciplinary design project. You’ll work with practising engineers and architects, managing every stage of the project. This includes final design, detailed planning, and overseeing the construction process. You’ll learn about modern project management skills in Civil Engineering and further specialise your technical skills.
These experiences will help you stand out and prepare you for a successful career as a leading Civil Engineer.
Increased employability
This course equips you with the skills and experience employers need. From the start, you’ll work with advanced digital tools like:
- Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- parametric design software
- structural analysis technology
Practical experience is built into the course through:
- site visits
- field trips
- hands-on projects
- practical labs
- industrial placements
You’ll gain insight into how the industry works while building your confidence in key Civil Engineering areas.
Pathway to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
This five-year MEng degree is the best way to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng). The course is fully accredited and meets all the educational requirements for CEng status. Completing this course will prepare you to achieve full chartership and lead in your career.
You can transfer between our BEng and MEng courses up until the end of the third year, depending on your progress and emerging preference.
