Complete University Guide 2026

Dentists care for people’s oral health. They do this by preventing disease, promoting healthy lifestyles, and treating diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth, teeth and gums. As a dentist, you will need good scientific knowledge, technical dental skills, and the ability to communicate well.

Studying Dentistry at Dundee means you will be part of a small, friendly and welcoming dental school that’s right in the heart of our campus.

Our BDS Dentistry course will help you develop clinical skills across the full range of dental disciplines. You will learn in an interactive and creative way. This will prepare you to become a confident dentistry professional.

You will learn to use state-of-the-art teaching facilities and resources across the University. On campus, we have our own Dental Hospital. This is where you will learn essential skills in a vibrant teaching hospital environment.

From your first week you will learn in our clinics. This is where you will start working towards providing safe patient care. You will be mentored by staff and experienced students. They will help you to build your confidence in the clinical environment.

Unique to the University of Dundee is the anatomy facility in the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID). At CAHID, you will have the opportunity to work with Thiel embalmed cadavers. Thiel embalming is an innovative method that preserves cadavers with life-like flexibility and tissue quality.

As a dentistry student, you will have the opportunity to work with Thiel embalmed cadavers for the study of anatomy and clinical skills.

Throughout the course you will get the opportunity to take part in a range of different learning opportunities. These include summer internships and research projects.

Each year we run the Discovery Week which gives you the opportunity to explore a topic of your own choice. You can then build on this through an elective study placement. The elective placement can include travelling to experience dentistry in a different culture.
