Dental therapists care for oral health. They prevent disease, promote healthy lifestyles, and treat gum disease and dental decay. Our BSc Oral Health Sciences course will prepare you to become a highly skilled and confident professional who is part of the dental team.
As an Oral Health Sciences student, you will learn the fundamentals of the sciences that support dentistry. You will also learn how they apply to clinical situations.
You will develop practical skills in our simulated clinical environment. It is here that you will learn in a supported, interactive and creative way. By the end of the first semester, you will be able to:
- communicate professionally with patients
- understand their health issues
- be ready to treat gum disease in your first patient clinic
Unique to the University of Dundee is the anatomy facility in the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID). Thiel embalming is an innovative method that preserves cadavers with life-like flexibility and tissue quality. As an Oral Health Sciences student, you will have the opportunity to work with Thiel embalmed cadavers.
Throughout the course you will get the opportunity to take part in range of different learning opportunities. In first year, we run the Discovery Week which gives you the opportunity to explore a topic of your own choice.
This course is fully approved by the General Dental Council (GDC). Successful completion of the course allows you to register as a dental therapist with the GDC.
